It’s not you… It’s me.

I know that I’ve been distant, that I haven’t been there for you… It’s just… Well you see… I’ve had other things going on and they’ve been all consuming.  Maybe it’s better that we don’t put so much pressure on ourselves to hang out all the time.  Maybe this was the way it was supposed to be… I mean, how else could I have told you this without you flipping out?

My wife and I are expecting!  Our son should be here by Feb 1st.

See? You promised you wouldn’t flip out.  Now there will be awkward pauses and doubt.  Great.  Look what you did.

Glasses == Uncoordination

So, I’ve gotten the new glasses and I have to say that my vision is improved but my coordination has disappeared.  It’s like my brain is too busy processing the details of what I can see that everything else is way too far ahead.  Every day seems to be getting better but if you see me looking at random stuff with weird movements, it’s just me getting adjusted to my glasses.

The New Spec's

Old

Just finished up with the eye doctor… Glasses required. I think all of the years of geekery is catching up. Wonder if the wife will approve 30” monitor purchases for my aging eyes ;).

Adobe Flex, y u hate me?!

Almost got my panel slider doing exactly what I want. Now to fix the icon direction based on page alignment and to have the images embedded via Actionscript for easy to update variables. Warble garble!

First Ride Out The Gate…

Finally did it.. Finally got off my ass long enough to go for a ride.  First one out the gate… 4.27 miles.  Not too shabby.  Will ride this a few times to see if I can beat my time.  iMapMyRide is a decent app.  I just need to make sure I turn off the wifi before I start otherwise it freaked out once I left my driveway.

Summer is finally approaching…

The sun is out today… With predictions of temperatures increasing through into the 90’s by the weekend.  Don’t know how I feel about this.  I’ve been enjoying the pseudo-Seattle weather without having to worry about parking, traffic, and long periods of rain.

My back yard didn’t survive the winter in the best shape due to a certain long-haired dauschund (yes, you Apollo) taking advantage of the soft ground.  I tell myself that I don’t need grass there anyways but everyone will agree it just looks weird.

The summer should be pretty interesting.  Hopefully September doesn’t bring crazy heat with it as I have my birthday celebration cruise to plan for.  Would hate for that to be ruined due to huge influx of heat.

Rub-a-dub, waiting for corporate love

So, still waiting on Corporate approval to stay home full time.  It hasn’t stopped me from not going in, just am waiting on the approval to upgrade my bandwidth to business class instead of the current allotment that I’m “blessed” with.

With my newly assigned project kicking off today, I’m having to blow the dust off of the part of my brain from last October’s training.  I don’t remember most of it so it will be… interesting to say the least.  Should slowly start to click as I have some training videos saved and downloaded the latest books on the language.  Whee, Adobe Flex… Here I come.

A week of sickness

Ah, the fog of sickness has finally started to lift off of our house.  Between my wife and I, we have gone through 2 bottles of Nyquil, 6 or 7 large boxes of tissues, 4 or 5 refills of the humidifier, countless hours of hacking and nose blowing, and 2 bloody noses.  The super cold that my nephew bestowed upon us has finally lit a fire under our asses.  If both my wife and I were healthier and skinner versions of our current selves, we don’t think it would have hit us like it has.  There’s no way we will survive being parents if 1 cold from a 3 year old from 2 days of being around him knocks us on our ass like this.

My initial workout plan will be to try something like the ‘Couch to 5K’ apps in the morning with a evening bike ride of a few miles.  Between those two events, I imagine the weight will just melt away.  We can all point and laugh at this post in a month or two when we all know that the weight didn’t melt away and I only followed the plan twice due to sheer laziness.

1 year ago 1 ♥
A new yet not beginning

So, I’ve been a reader of blogs since the term was coined and tried even putting my own together 15 years ago with straight html… Never has seemed to stick though whenever I try to put my own thoughts down and I get bored with the first 1 or 2 posts.  Hopefully though, this time I can put a bit more effort into it.

With the opening paragraph out of the way, I’ve put in for a “transfer” of sorts.  I have requested to become a full-time teleworker.  No more commute, no more dressing up in “Business Casual”.  My commute will now be the round-trip trek from the bedroom to the kitchen for a fresh cup of coffee and back to my office to start my day.  I’ve read countless blogs about everyone starting this same adventure and I hope that it works out for me.

I hope that keeping this blog will help the transition and I can document my experiences of what works, what doesn’t work, and to expel other random nonsense from my head so that I can sleep at night.

So, please… join me on this journey.
